Cookie issue
There is clearly an issue with the forum's cookies. I suspect they are related to other issues reported as well, especially ones that seem to be limited to specific users or classes of users. Here ...
Note that I did tell it to trust this browser so 2-factor authentication would not be required, if that matters.
I've sometimes had to jump through the 2FA hoop again despite having trusted the browser.

I agree. I've seen some other odd behavior, particularly when logging in. Chrome refused to go the community home for me a couple days ago. Edge worked fine on the same PC with the same credentials. Clearing the cache (and cookies) resolved it.
Not sure if this is related, but sometimes authentication is glacially slow, particularly early morning East Coast time.
