New discussion threads are not marked as unread

The entire marking and listing of read vs unread posts is a complete mess.  It seems to indicate things have been read that haven't in some places and does a very poor job of determining that you have read something in others.  It is often difficult to figure out which reply is generating the "x unread" designation and then clear it (by selecting something in the post).  Unread replies are not even automatically made visible, you often have to select "More replies".  Most of us who frequent the forums and give the lion's share of replies use these indications to know what we need to read, and the inability for us to do so will decrease the forum's effectiveness at getting users quick answers.

In the old software, I found it extremely easy to find new messages (new thread or reply to old), see if I can contribute to the discussion, and get out.  That's no longer the case.  So far, I've been giving you the benefit of the doubt that you'll fix all this and I've put in the extra effort needed.  But unless I'm put on the payroll and paid to waste my time in that way, that won't happen forever.
