Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

I just got my netgear router today and tried installing Netgear Genie which displays "NETGEAR Genie has stopped working" "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close sthe program and notify you if a solution is aviable." I tried troubleshooting it through windows already but it doesn't work, and reinstalling did nothing. I'm on windows 10 , fully updated with all my drivers and routers firmware. Hopefully this can be looked at and fixed, seems I'm not alone.

I have 2 Windows 10 machines, 1 x Windows 10 Home and 1 x Windows 10 Pro and Genie was working happily on both. After MS released Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.3), Genie was uninstalled during the Home version update due to a incompatibility issue, however, Genie version 2.4.16 is working without issue on the Windows 10 Pro. I have downgraded the Win 10 Home machine to Genie Version 2.4.12 until the next release.
Event log post Windows update on the Win10 Home system is below:
