Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

I did delete genie in the control panel and it still failed. I went back and deleted everything on the pc that had 'netgear' in it except my internet favorites (not in the registry either). Made sure it did not show in the control panel. Downloaded the current version from the web site today and installed it without any problem. There have been many windows updates since I tried last. The version of Genie that installed ir 2.4.16.
I'm calling this fixed for me.

Hi @donnieko,
You may follow the temporary work around for this issue.
1. Uninstall the NETGEAR Genie program from the computer/device.
2. Download the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie.
Download link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz-pjmQaYmk6Vk92eE81a20xRjg/view?usp=sharing
3. Install the program and check if it functions correctly.
4. Locate the drivers folder under C:\Program Files\NETGEAR Genie\bin and copy it to the desktop.
5. Download and install the latest version of NETGEAR Genie again using the download link below.
http://netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie/aspx
6. Look for the same folder under the same location and delete the folder.
7. Replace the folder with the folder that you pasted on the desktop from the working version of NETGEAR Genie.
8. Close the NETGEAR Genie program through the system tray.
9. Re-open the NETGEAR Genie program and check if it works.

After a new router install today on my fairly new Win 10 computer, only to find Genie didn't work, I spent 53 minutes with tech support, who came to the conclusion that I had to leave my computer in SAFE MODE for geinie to work. I protested to a supervisor who told me I had to contact McAfee to get an exception dialed in to allow Genie to work.
Then I found this site. It seems that Genie doesn't work on Win 10. Shame on you, Netgear.
I tried the solution proposed by Dexter JB, and it WORKED!!!!!
Thank you Dexter JB, you are the only person at Netgear that seems to know what they are doing. Please tell your tech support guys the real story so they don't have to flounder around and have useless suggestions, better yet, Netgear should re-write Genie so it works!
