Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

No I didn't uninstall first. I assume the genie software update process takes care of itself. Genie worked after the windows 10 update but when the genie update ran it deleted the old genie and crashed installing the new version. Windows reports that the software being installed is incompatable.

I did delete genie in the control panel and it still failed. I went back and deleted everything on the pc that had 'netgear' in it except my internet favorites (not in the registry either). Made sure it did not show in the control panel. Downloaded the current version from the web site today and installed it without any problem. There have been many windows updates since I tried last. The version of Genie that installed ir 2.4.16.
I'm calling this fixed for me.

Definately a bug in this new update, as I have had the same issue as well. Genie worked fine before installing the update, now it crashes every time I try to run it, saying there was an error and that Windows will notify me when the problem is fixed.
Using WNDR3400v3

... Artie-
this may not be something you'd prefer, but I gave up and
loaded the Genie app on my Note 5 phone that I just got.
Slight pain in needing to have your phone for this, but the
app works great!

Sorry Dexter, but the problem continue in surface 3 pro windows 10, with the last update form genie download, 5 minutes ago.
I cleaned the register in windows 10 looking for "netgear genie" and delete, and the problem continue after instalation.

Hi Art_Uro, Nr7000, Jrev, kimella,
Please indicate the devices (brand and model) that experience the issue since I will collate the information to send an inquiry to Engineering. This is a bit odd since other Windows 10 devices are able to run the NETGEAR Genie program just fine. This will help us isolate the issue.

Hi Dexter
My machine is an Alienware X51 R2 running windows ten since August. I have an identical machine at work running windows 8.1. I will try and install Genie on that machine to see if the different OS makes a difference

I am having the same problem (10/24/2015). Genie was working fine, even after the Win 10 install. Was in Genie and it said a new version was available which supports Win 10. Did the install, no joy. Deleted all versions, re-downloaded - no joy. What's a person supposed to do, if a simple network "Genie" device doesn't work? Are you going to fix the problem?

Hi Saminnc,
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Rest assured, we are working on a fix for this. In the mean time, you can use the download link below for the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie.

Bearing in mind that no version works for some of us - refer to previous comments. I have two Dell/Alienware PCs where none of the teweaks described in all of the previous comments works

Hi,
Net genie worked with W10 until the latest Windows upgrade that we have no control over. It's called Window 10 Insider. I received a message that Genie was removed because it was incompatible with windows 10 and to contact netgear for an update. Based on what I've been reading, nobody is able to use the genie after this latest update from windows that we have no control over.

Hi gailparz,
It is possible that the latest Windows 10 updates do not work well with the NETGEAR Genie program. As a temporary work around, you may use the download link below for the previous version of the program.

Thanks. I'll save the link. I went through System and went back to the previous Windows build. It put the Genie back in the program list and icon back on my desktop. It shows as being on in the task manager but the program will not open.

Hi Dexter:
I have the same problem. I installed the genie yesterday from your website on a brand new HP laptop with factory installed Win10. No luck. Win10 program compatibility returns "incompatible program."

Hi mrawmiller and DrewFromCA,
Please try using the download link below for the previous version of the NETGEAR Genie program.\

Hi,
I've got the same problem with a new install. The program stop working immediately after having started.
No compatibility options proposed by Windows is working.
What can I do with my router ?
How can I configure the router when Genie is not working ?
Regards,
Stef
- Gerry_SADec 21, 2015Tutor
I'm not sure which router you have, but you don't need Genie to configure your router. You should be able to do it via the router's web page - mine for example is www.routerlogin.net.
Do you have a Quick Start book that came with it? If not, you should be able to download one from the Netgear site. You should follow the instructions in there carefully.
Genie is merely a handy tool...

Gerry

Dear Gerry,
thanks for your answer.
Obviously I can configure my router using the web interface.
However, I need to use Genie to bypass the Parental Controls settings.

Z.

Been using windows vista, I think 7, when we also got a laptop w/windows 10, our netgear genie says it is not enabled. Now our wifi printer doesn't work either. Would the download you suggested be okay for me to download, or would it cause more problems. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.
