Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

Hi Metrojack,
May I know what version of NETGEAR Genie you have installed? Can you also provide a screenshot of the error message?

2.3 version
message reads; "Something caused the program to stop working and it will be shut down."
Genie actually starts-up and shows on screen for about 10 seconds before message pops up.
Everything was find before the Genie update.
I think Netgear has a bug in the update.
I looked at the Win 10 info, shows it as an App error.

Downloaded genie into Windows 10 environment for first time. Pops up for a few seconds and then it says the program has stopped working and windows will search for a solution - end of activity. Uninstalled and reinstalled with link supplied to related post No good

I am having the same program. I have tried searching and deleting everything with "Netgear" in it and have followed all of the download links in this thread and still have the same problem. The problem is not fixed for everyone. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop. Just bought with Windows 8.1 installed, did the upgrade to Windows 10. Have nothing else on the PC at this point. This was my first new software install so I don't know what could be conflicting with Netgear besides Windows 10 itself.
Please help.

Ive been having this exact same issue since i bought my router a couple months back. Ive called support twice and got put on hold for over twenty minutes the first time, and got hung up on the second time. This has been a really bad customer service experience so far. I gave up trying to resolve the issue over the phone so now im just looking through forums with no solution still. I keep getting the uninstall and reinstall answer but that does not work. I am also running windows 10.

same thing here. Deleted everything that had anything to do with netgear genie, restarted my computer and the same thing again. As soon as it comes on the screen windows pops up and says it quit working.
Also, it works on my other computer ( I didn't update it) but now when I try to log in it says that the netgear router or it is not
not found or not supported.

I had the same problem that you are having. I bought a new Netgear router yesterday (December 31/'15) all worked well until I installed the "Netgear Genie" app. When I click on the app and check the box to allow this app to make changes to this computer then click ok it comes up with "This app has stopped working" message everytime!!! But I figured it out! In your web browser type www.routerlogin.net then enter admin for the username and password for the password and click OK. There ya go! I just saved it to my bookmarks and now I have access to Netgear Genie anytime I want.......Hope this helps everybody cuz I know how frustrating this can be.....ENJOY! :-)

Mine does the same thing. I have a NEW computer and have never had a Netgear router before, so this was a clean install of version 2.4.16. It opens and then immediately crashes. Can't use the router so far.

I found that my old router WNDR 3400v2 is not compatible with Windows 10. I purchached R7000 and hoped that Genie would work but it didn't first. But I tried this method and it works!!! I really missed Genie. I also could download Gene on my Blackberry Z30. I have Surface Pro 3 upgrated to Windows 10.
