40 Mb/s Transfer Real but 102 Mb/s from Powerline Util

Hi,

I'm a little frustrated about figuring out the supposed and real bandwidth.

I am doing a FTP transfer and I get about 40 Mb/s down stream. Powerline Utility is telling me its 103 Mb/s down stream and 152 Mb/s upstream.

So I know the real world is telling me I'm not getting much better than my previous wireless g.

Why is Powerline Utility telling me I have 103 Mb/s down when I'm not any where near that?

Note: I am using a Linksys WRT 54g Router with Tomato and it has 100 Mb/Full Duplex Switching.

Please help. I really want the higher speeds.

Thank You,
btanoue

  • ????????

if internet is only giving 40Mbps then that is MAX you will get ANYWHERE in the house

102Mbps is the throughput between the to power line devices that can push. NO different then you have 100base-T connected with PC to the switch that is 10/100Base-T capable. still you will NOT get any faster than 40Mbps for internet speed while ANY LAN to LAN will have up to 100Mbps or in your case 102Mbps that utility is showing
  • Sorry,

I should have elaborated. Its all internal network traffic that is ftp between two machines.

    No outside network.

    Any ideas?
