CAT 6 between phone socket & router!
Hi all,
I been having dead slow internet connection. Max download speed 1.2 MB!
After many complaints to my ISP, and inspection by their tech staff. It appears that my phone line cannot handle more than that. Meaning I need to replace the phone wire/line with CAT 5 or 6, else regular phone line cannot handle higher speeds.
Since I can't change the wiring/cables, due to building restrictions. Thought of replacing the regular phone wire (5 feet long) between phone jack (socket) and Netgear router (DGN 2200) with CAT 6 line! May be it helps! :o
After connecting CAT 6 between the two points phone + router. Speed jumped to 2 MB yet couple of hours later, router got disconnected!
Called my ISP - them not knowing I made the wire change - to investigate why the router keeps disconnecting, and appears continuously "negotiating connection" - fails to connect. ISP reply: you seems to have faulty wiring, cable problem. You must resolve this through electrician help. Sorry we cannot help you any further.
After 2 days of failed internet connection, thought the CAT 6 might be the cause of loss of connection by router! Removed the CAT 6, put back the regular phone wire. Voila !! Router working, connecting again.
Sorry to list all the details above, my question is simple:
Why would connecting phone socket -to- router, via CAT 6 cable does not work! i.e. WRONG idea!

- jmizoguchiVirtuosoI would probably CAT 5/6 isn't your issues.
You need to have DMARC to your resident check make sure line is good.
Replacing socket to router isn't procedure to be done. Start from front end (outside )
Also you are posting WRONG area.
Router is NOT power line products
