Not sure why you threw MDIX into the mix.
Is this because those switches are almost 20th century? 2004?
I would be tempted to get newer switches. They are dead cheap.
Do you need a switch at the modem/router end? Most come with four LAN ports.

Thanks for the response. I'm planning to buy new Switches, as per what i noted in my original post (GS605 & GS608). I have quite a few devices to capture in 2 rooms in the house.
The modem only has a couple of ports on it. So i really need to run it into an 8-port switch to capture all the devices i want to in the study.
I have the study at the front of the house which would have 3-4 computers on the switch, plus modem, plus NAS. Up the other end of the house where the living room is (20m away roughly?) is where the other three devices are (Xbox, TV & Roku Box). Therefore my goal is to have 1 network connecting them all, but have 2 switches to capture all devices and link them via powerline adapter which is the easiest way for me to achieve this.
The MDIX query was purely that i've never used Powerline Adapters and just wanted confirmation that something like MDIX would function through it linking the two switches. I've tried to search it through the web and found little to no results of people apparently doing it - thus figured it would easier to post and ask the question.
Unsure why you think its old tech as its standard on most current generation gigabit switches in linking multiple switches?? Are you suggesting i link the two switches in a different way?? sorry - bit confused by your response regarding that.
