Newbie in Trouble with XAV2001 XAVN2001 network

Sorry to be a bore but I am having a real problem setting up a secure network in my house.

I have the xav2001 connected to my router
I have the XAVN2001 connected to a Max Book
I want secure communications between these and ny home network which consists of a iMac connected with a cable to the same router, A Cannon Pixmar printer connected wirelessly to the network and sundry iPods iPhones and a Mac Book Pro. There are also a couple of PCs that visit from time to time.

Ideally I would like the same WPA code throughout. I had managed to get an unsecured 'spur' to the home network which was enabling family to connect to the router and hence the Web but no access to the family network.

In trying to sort out the security I have lost everything. I have tried to restore the factory settings and I cannot even do that now. All this while my wife is trying to reorganise the dining room! I am sure the little blighters are still working but suspect they are sulking because I have been mucking them about.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Have a lovely Sunday

  • Hi guys,
I'm really interested in knowing if you achieved to setup your secure wireless connection.
I've been using the XAV2001 and XAVN2001 in "open" mode for more than 2 years now and think this is a great product. All was fine (i lived in the country side and didn't have any neighbour).
Now i moved to town and tried to add a password to my Powerline wireless network. Aaargl ---* !
First i didn't have the "Wireless settings" available on my Powerline Utility v. 1.0.0.5 (or something similar) so i upgraded to v. 2.0.0.14 and found the "Wireless Settiings" that lets you enter a new SSID and a password.
This made my day...for a few minutes only :-(

I first tried to set the new SSID and password while connected by Ethernet to the XAVN: "Wireless Setup Failure".
I then tried while being connected by Ethernet to the XAV (but still selecting the XAVN in the Utility): "Wireless Setup Failure".
I even tried while connected in wifi to the XAVN: same punition.

    Did i forget anything ?

Many thanks for your advices. Using an un-secure network here is out of question, so both XAV and XAVN will stay unplugged until a solution comes up.

    Cheers to all,

Still not good. Netgear stuff will be binned. I am not haveing an unsecured system in my house.

Shame really it looked such a nice idea and cost me quite a bit.
    :confused::mad:

Users having been able to setup a secure wifi network here, please raise your hands :)

Me. If you go to the IP address of your device, you will find a configuration page.

  • Finally discovered that the software that I had was very very old and that it would never work with my system.

Found up to date software and now appear to be running really well. Months and months later and feeling pretty cross, now delighted.
