Powerline 2000 will not perform
This post is just some general observations before I return my Powserline 2000 to BestBuy. Using Speedtest.net for all speeds... Connecting my computer directly to my modem --- ...

they make a flat ethernet cable on monoprice that can be hidden pretty easily.
I've used that before.
Or even relocating the modem could be an option. Many houses are wired for coax

the problem with powerline is how many different things can impact its speeds.
If you're crossing circuits, those speeds are actually pretty good.
I'd highly recommend reading a few tests/reviews on powerline devices

Thanks for the advice... However, I will be abandoning this particular solution, unfortunately. I was looking to the Powerline units just as a convenient way to ethernet connect to my modem. I'll will now just take the time to "hide" the ethernet cables and direct connect.

Probably not an ideal solution. That is just too vital a link in the network, especially with gigabit Internet. I can see that this would give disappointing results.
I find that Powerline is best suited to connecting things out of the router. It can beat wifi for things like smart TVs (easier to set up and more reliable than wifi), wireless access points (better than wireless extender mode) and NAS.
It might be worth trying it with the router next to the mode and with powerline out of the router. But that depends on what else you have on the network.
