Powerline PL1000 loss of speed

many things impact powerline.
it could be.
1. The old wiring.
2. arc fault breakers
3. gfci outlets
4. surge protectors
5. bad/cheap cell phone chargers
6. cheap electronics injecting noise in the line
7. high draw appliances
8. even electronics that are going bad could cause noise in the line
9. Distance is hard to predict with powerline because everything traces back to the main breaker board. Technically your device might be closer, but the wiring might actually be causing it further apart.
You might be right that an extender might be a better option. You can try troubleshooting by unplugging devices to see if its something injecting noise into the line. Easy test? put both powerline devices on the same circuit without anything else plugged in. If they do fine, they're functioning fine and its one of the things above.
