Powerline XAV1004 Firmware update

I have just bought an old XAV1004 Powerline adpator to extend my current Powerline netwark and woudl like to upgrade the firmware to the latest version to match the other XAV1004's that I have.  I have installed the Firmware upgrade app v2.0.0.0 but when I run it it does not detect any XAV1004's.  I have tried connecting the XAV1004 directly to the laptop with an ethernet cable but it still does not detect it.  Please can someone advise the correct firmware update process?  I have set a customer encryption key - do I need to disable this before updating the firmware?

      Yes - I have the Powerline Utility installed and have installed the firmware update, however when I run it says it cannot locate any XAV1004's to update.  Can you confirm exactly how I shodul connect the XAV1004 to the PC that has the frmware upadte utility installed?  Do I just connect them with an Eternet cable?   Also do I need to revrt to the standard encryption key first, or even do a factory reset?
