Wireless network of XAVN2001 doesn't show up

Have you checked if the radio interface is enable? Do you see the wifi LED turned on blue? There is an option in under advance wireless setting, where the radio can be disable. Just factory reset the unit using the reset buttom for 10 secs. Then look for NETGEAR_EXT SSID again...the blue LED should be on.
For unit management try now using netgear genie instead powerline utility.
By the way, Is your XAVNB2001 the new pack with xavn2001v2/xav1301 or old one with xavn2001/2101?
