I wound up getting both adapters replaced. To my surprise, when I replaced my two existing modules (now running at 90Mbps) with the two new ones, the performance remained at 90Mbps!!
I know it’s easy to discount this as something being added to our power line, something installed that’s affecting performance, etc., but nothing in the house was changed. Even if it were the result of some other appliance getting added, I would have expected my performance to drop from 320 Mbps to 90Mbps somewhat immediately, and not 50Mbps per day across the month.
Overall, going over this 90Mbps link is fine for accessing my 6Mbps DSL connection, but I was hoping to get improved performance on server-file-copies or being able to perform PC Backups over the LAN. Not going to happen.
It would be nice if Netgear’s UI (that reports performance between the modules), had some advanced reporting to assist with troubleshooting this issue.
By the way: telephone support was an embarrassment for this case. Had to answer questions about Antivirus and whether I called my ISP – when all I was asking about was in-house connectivity performance.
