For me just a plug in and out sequence (or use the switch on the power cord) is not that big a deal. Otherwise I'm very, very, very content with the performance and the convenience of the device e.g. streaming HD content without having CAT-5 cables pulling strough my house.
You might just leave a connected network device on to keep the switch busy and preventing it going to sleep as a temporal solution till Netgear comes with a firmware update.
