We know what you think about Netgear and your USB device, but we don't know much about the problem you have with it. Any pattern to the disconnects? All other wifi clients behaving themselves?
The trouble with these devices is that they rely on Windows, and that can easily get confused.
Have you looked into the Device Manager in Windows for signs of errors? (Tell it to Show Hidden Devices.)
While you are in there, look at the Properties of you Wifi Adapter, especially the Power Management tab. See if it helps to turn off Allow the computer to turnoff the device...
