Where does the WiFi Adapter, the subject of this section, come into the picture? Or is it just a router issue?

What functions are these? The password for the browser graphical user interface (GUI) is not the same as the password for the wifi, although you can change both.

At least that question belongs in this place, but without more information it is anybody's guess where things go wrong. I'm afraid that "with no success" provides minimal diagnostic information.

AC1200 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.
Look at the label on the device for the model number. A6150?
