No NETGEAR A7000 Plug in

I have just bought the A7000 Nighthawk WiFi USB adapter. I had no problems with driver installation, and the A7000 is listed as registering with my USB port according to the system report.. however I still have the 'No NETGEAR A7000 Plug in' message showing in my extensions, and the WPS (LED) light won't turn on.

Other USB devices work in the ports - and I can only think that the unit itself is faulty. Can someone suggest any further tests I should do before returning the device?

Thanks.

What does that mean? What are these "extensions"?
