USB Network adapter won't find any 5GHz networks anymore.

I have a A6210 USB network adapter and I know for a fact that it use to connect to 5GHz networks but the last 2 or 3 household I've lived in, will only connect to the 2.4GHz networks. I went into device manager to force it to connect to 5GHz only, and it just stays disconnected not even displaying any networks.

I tried looking through the Netgear Genie to find any settings to change but it seems I can't change anything via their software.

My laptop and phone all connect to the 5GHz network fine.

The adapter will look for the "best" signal. 5 GHz wifi may be faster than 2.4 GHz, but it has a shorter range.

The signal strength also depends on the building material so it is not surprising that what works in one place won't in a different location.
