If you're home is 1500sq ft, the R8000 should easily cover it.
Couple key questions though.
What materials is your interior walls made off? Certain materials like plaster lather, foil lined insulation, adobe, metal, etc all block wifi signals to an amazing amount. Hvac within walls also do a great job. Sometimes moving a router can make a big difference if there's hvac in the wall its right next to.
What device are you testing with? Try multiple devices and keep track of what band they're on. Some devices are a 1x1 antenna arrangement and band they're on make a huge difference.
Firmware on the router?
What modem are you using?
Another question is smart connect? Are you using it? It does band steering and potentially place a device further away on the 2.4ghz band. Which is much slower than 5ghz to a significant amount.
Have you tried optimizing wifi channels?

All issues with this router dissipated once I unplugged one of the (3) wired connections. Now I only have (2) wired connections going to the router. All my other devices are connected via wi-fi.
