2.4GHz and 5GHz bands using one wifi network name

Trying to setup the extender for my AT&T fiber internet service. I was unsuccessful when using the setup assistant and the "use one network name" option. I could not complete the last step to login from the second wifi device to verify the extender network. It could not find the extender network, NETGEAR_EXT.

When I reset the extender and did the new setup again, I selected different names for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and could complete the process. However, devices such as the wireless DVR, will not pickup the extender bands, because the names are different than the primary, even though the passwords are the same.

I read there is a process to rename the 2.4 & 5 bands, but do I have to run the setup again? Is there another way to login to the extender using my newly created account and password?

I do NOT have ethernet ports on my laptop or other devices, so wifi verifcation is my only option. I am not super techie, but I understand some of the basics. I am just trying to get AT&T Uverse to cooperate. From what I have read, it requires the same network name configuration. Its signal is horrible on our second floor. I have had them out for service multiple times, and they even tried some wall plug-ins before I tried purchasing this product.

Amazon Fire TV and Roku are a little easier to switch bands, or they are picking up a signal upstairs. Our MacBooks, iOs, and other devices are picking up the extender bands.

For the record, I had the same issue with Dish TV and Charter, so it is my house that is mostly to blame, with concrete subfloors and plaster walls. It seems hard for any provider to get a signal upstairs, unless I pay someone to put in an ethernet or some other cable directly attached to the router, which I had to do in my last "old" house. I thought the technology was supposed to be getting better and easier for us mortals to configure at home, so we didn't have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to the tech guys.

It should be possible to reconfigure the DVR to use the extender WiFi's network name.

But you can also connect to the client network with a laptop, and enter mywifiext.net.  That should take you into the extender's web page.  You will need to log in using the credentials you used when you set up the extender the first time.  Once in you can change the client network names.
