AC1200 dual band wifi range extender
it was working great until xfinity/comcast gave me a new router. now the extender will not connect to it. what the heck?

What model of internet gateway did you received from xfinity/comcast?
So you did try the WPS pairing? First clicking on the WPS button on your xfinity/comcast and thand on your extender.
