AC1200 Extender
How do I connect the NETGEAR extenders to a Linksys router? I've tried the startup guide to no avail.

Saying you've tried the setup guide to no avail doesn't tell us much.
Which method did you try using? wps, manual setup, what?
Where does it fail in the setup process? are you failing to connect to the extender, the extendering failing to connect to the router, what exactly is going on?
Which linksys router?
What modem extender? AC1200 is a speed, not a model.
Firmware on your extender?
