Is there a reason you want to deactivate 5ghz?
Even if you don't want to use it for extending, you could use it for fast lane (dedicates one band for router----extender communication). With 5ghz being faster, you'd end up with lower latency and faster speeds than just going 2.4ghz extending.
Reason why is an extender has to recieve and retransmit with the same chip, and it can't do both at once. So it cuts throughput in half and increases latency. Fastlane helps prevent that.

Thanks for the info. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about but it sounds like I don't want to get rid of it. I just thought that my router was not equipped for 5ghz, so there was no point in having it available. I guess I'm wrong? Do I need to do anythign to set up fastlane?
