AC1200 Range Extender - how to get rid of 5ghz band

This question asked by another was not actually answered. I want to deselect 5GHz band because a device connected to the extended network is "hopping" between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with degraded performance. The 2.4GHz band is stronger and more reliable in the extended location so I want that to be the only one available. However when reset the Extender and re-ran the configuration via Installation Assistant and de-selected the 5G network to have the Extender only carry 2.4 GHz the 5G network still appeared supported after completion. Why?

because the 5ghz can use the 2.4ghz backhaul if the 5ghz isn't connected.
You could always name the 5ghz different so it doesn't use it if you don't want to.
Or disable the radio. If you're using the ex7000, its page 27 of the manual.
If you don't want a 5ghz, the EX2700 is a 2.4ghz only extender and much cheaper being a base N300 device.
