I ended up ordering a new Wi-Fi extender, different brand and it was simple to connect and is working great. I can only assume something crapped out with the netgear. I didn’t want to go with the pods in case I ever change network providers. Luckily it worked at half the cost of the pods

This is on page 15 of the user manual. Move the switch from Extender to Access Point and connect an Ethernet cable between the EX6150v2 Ethernet jack and the host router. The 2.4G and 5G WiFi SSIDs should appear in a minute or so. (Computers never seem to do things as quickly as I expect them to.)
My experience with WPS is mixed. Documentation and YouTube videos never seem to say much about how long to hold WPS buttons. Will a "click" do it? Or, does it need to be longer? (how much longer?) I now press WPS, say, "one second, two second", and let go. Also, the connection doesn't seem to take place instantly, either.
