I ended up ordering a new Wi-Fi extender, different brand and it was simple to connect and is working great. I can only assume something crapped out with the netgear. I didn’t want to go with the pods in case I ever change network providers. Luckily it worked at half the cost of the pods

There is one major difference between Extender and Access Point (AP) mode: the Ethernet cable.
People generally want to deploy additional WiFi units because the existing units do not coverage a wide enough area. If installing Ethernet cables was convenient, they would simply "run a cable" to whatever device needs network access. So, the EX6150v2 will create a new WiFi access point, but unless the unit can be moved away from the existing WiFi sources, that doesn't add much capability.
