AC1750 Smart WiFi Router (R6400) - Coverage Question

I changed my internet service from a phone line to a cable line. As a result I had to relocate my AC1750 (R6400) router in the house to a new location and now I have gaps in my wireless coverage. I have used this router since 2016 and question whether I would be better served getting a new router or just a signal extender. Thanks
