What router are you connecting to? kind of key as its the backbone of the system.

Did you set it up with wps? if so, try using the installation wizard.

The router is a Vodafone Wifi Hub.

I did use WPS, what is the installation wizard ? the programme of the router ?

which Vodafone Wifi Hub?

The installation wizard is how you setup the extender without using wps. Wps works great but not all manufacturers code it the same so it doesn't always work. this is why there's the installation wizard.
there's a video on the support site (think its video 2) that shows it being used.

  the issue is that I when connecting to the router it asks me for the wifi password and then doesn't recognise it so I cannot go onto mywifiext.

    are you using wpa2 on your router?
    Are you sure the wireless and password are correct for the router?
