-Not necessarily. Usually the router assigns an IP address to the extender and then the devices connected.

Hi,
I've contacted Synlogy and they asked the following questoins:
1. Does the Netgear router as an extender means the WDS mode?
2. Whether the Netgear router can only connect with the same brand router when it is used as an extender.

2. Whether the Netgear router can only connect with the same brand router when it is used as an extender.-----no it can work with most routers. I've read of a few ISP routers that have issues but in those cases, it wasn't isolated to netgear extenders. All the extenders that were tried to connect had issues.
