Access point or Range extender confusion

Yes you can still use the hardwired in connections.
AP mode just disables the router functions that manage data inspection/routing. It leaves the primary router managing all that.
I use AP mode all the time as I test different systems.
Some pretty solid deals out there this weekend for picking up routers 🙂
either would work. Most extenders have an access point mode (not all).
And most routers have either router or access point mode.
So either would work.
If it was me? I'd pick up a renewed router off amazon and use it in access point mode.
Then if you're primary dies, you have a backup router you can swap in.

I see in my router setup that I can turn my RAX50 into AP mode. Maybe I'll get a newer router for the home and move the RAX50 to the office.
The one thing I'm still a bit confused about in reading about the differences between Range Extenders and Access Points is this.If I move the RAX50 to the office and set it up as an Access Point with a new router in the home, will I still be able to use the RAX50 as a hardline device too for my desktop, printer and IP camera?
