I just reread what you said. Are you saying that i want to look for extender that has eithernet with access point mode? if i were to guess that means accepting connection from my router with\thru eithernet?

Most of Netgears extenders support access point mode. Just the very base models (like EX2700, etc) don't.
Are you wanting an AX extender or an AC extender?
- Blaze2025Jan 14, 2025GuideOkay basic you mention.
What is ax or ac?
I want an extender i can have eithernet cable from my router to pass on wifi signal so i can use extender wifi. I want to increase my wifi coverage without moving or changing my router location- plemansJan 14, 2025Guru - Experienced User
AX= Wifi 6. its wireless AX
AC-Wifi 5, wireless AC.
One is a generation newer.
If you're not using the extender for the fastest things, the ac is fine. But if you're wanting the faster ones, then you'd like at AX. I'm a fan of the EX8000 as it has a dedicated backhaul.
- Blaze2025Feb 03, 2025GuideThank you for this.
I may look into this.
I have something here and am curious.
I picked up EX6170-100N
AC1200 RANGE EXTENDER SMB
At best buy. I cant even use as extender but as access point. I have router on ceiling in middle of basement. Right outside my basement through block is my enclosed breezeway where i put this extender. Maybe 20 ft distance.
Anyway the coverage sais up to 1500 squarefoot which seems accurate. However since i have ethernet from router to extender and using as access point, the speed im getting is 90mbps??
Im not sure why. The cable rated which i double checked.
Any ideas. My speed test reads that 90 right next to extender and some feet away.
My other devices test at 500-900 since i have verizon fios gig.
Just looking for why.
I am going to go with and extender with more covage, maybe a couple to cover more area and i guess a faster extender to get higher speed? Not that i need much. Just does not make sense and not sure I’m a fan of access point because I have to switch my WiFi on device. I’d like the
Convenience of extending so I don’t have to do anything and my continued covers is just there. Does that make sense?
