Its not the I'm "eyeing" the latest/greatest ... but ... if I'm replacing a 5 year old system ... I thought it won't do any harm going for "future proofing" (at least somewhat ;) )

Neither of those devices is a mesh router.
You can hardwire in an extender or satellite but I'd recommend just going with a mesh system like orbi or the MK nighthawk versus trying to use a standard router and add extenders. The designed mesh systems tend to be more stable and work better.

they both do. Some of the series have satellites that don't have ethernet ports. Just something to keep in mind.
