ATTN Dexter please advise next steps
Dexter, Can you advise on flashing back to original specs and then latest suggested firmware for my extender. It's getting really flaky and have been wrestling with this for over 2 years now. One...
it looks like you have it setup in fastlane mode?
You can flash it following the manual firmware install guide. Flash it over a hardwired line, factory reset it, and then install it via the smart connection wizard (tends to work better than wps).
Thank you. I already had that particaulr firmware but did reset the Extender to factory defualts. I re-setup successfully but now that it's in the standard setup, the speed dropped about to the same as the modem to which it is connected (in another adjacent unit).
In other words, even though the Extender sees and connects to the modem, it's the same (slow) speed as if I connected my devices to that modem (not the extender). I noticed that with this setup, I wasn't prompoted for a new name of my "extended" network. It's just "forwarding" so to speak the modem connections.
How do I configure the Extender to have this new "extended network" (which hopefully remains stable). At least when it was previoulsy configured, the speed was very good (I just had to reboot the Extender once a day to connect my devices).

I guess I'm a bit confused. Do you expect the extender to be faster than your modem?
What modem are you connected to?
What speeds do you pay for?
What speed to you get from the modem? And from the extender?
Are you using it in mesh modem where it uses the same ssid/password as the modem?
Well, my experieince with this Extender was that it was essentially faster than connecting to the modem (again, in another house, close by) becuase the devices only need to reach the Extender.
But since I wrote the followup, I tried connecting to the 5 Ghz band and that IS faster for my devices. I only ever used the 2.4GHz WiFi... moreover, the Nighthawk configured a whole other network that at least showed me that my devices were connecting to it (and not either of the SSID's coming from the modem).
So with this defualt config, I see both bands, chose the 5 GHz and all seems good. I'm just trying to see if my devices are in fact connected to the Extender or the modem now.

[follow-up] in past config, I probably did not configure "Enable One WiFi Name" so took the "*_EXT" name.
This default config I left alone "Enable One WiFi Name" and so see that my devices are in fact connected to the Extender. I just never used the 5GHz before because it definately wasn't faster than the 2.4GHz WiFi.
