Blue dome light on WNDR3400

My dad has a Netgear n600 WNDR3400 wireless router.

When it is standing on the edge, there is a blue, round, dome shaped light on the side. It has a "wifi" symbol on it and says "WPS". You can push the button and the entire button is lit with a blue light.

There is no info as to what this button does when it is pushed and lit up.

I'm sure someone here knows so thanks in advance!

  • I bought this router about 2 months ago and I am continually losing the network connection on my computer, but just for 5-10 seconds, then it reconnects. Happens several times an hour.

I noticed that when this happens the blue dome light flickers instead of being on constantly. Is that an indicator of a problem.
  • Just for fun I turned the blue light out to see what would happen. It went out, but a half hour later it was back on. What's up here?
  • Anybody with any ideas? I'm guessing it's a bad modem, but would like input.
  • blinking doesn't mean it's bad. :)

somebody might ahve tried connecting to it using the WPS.
