I'm confused as to what you're doing.
You're wanting to connect your linksys router to your netgear extender simply for additional ethernet ports?
Is this correct?
A cheap gigabit switch would work as well and wouldn't cause double nat issues or wireless interference issues.

Hi thank you for replying.
when I had wireless security cameras installed they added the Linksys because my Xfinity gateway didn't have enough ports. The cameras and dvr for camera recording are wifi connected to the linksys. Sorry but I'm kind of a layman with this stuff.....but it appears the gateway is connected (hardwired) to the Linksys which I guess makes everything go thru the linksys. So when I got the Nighthawk I connected it to my Xfinity gateway but I'm wondering now if it should be connected to the Linksys instead or additionally.? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for your time

What actual xfinity gateway is it?
What linksys router is it?
What extender do you have (ac2200 is a speed)?
So you're currently going with all the security camera's connected to the linksys router?
How many is it?
Everything else is connected to the xfinity gateway?
they might have done it to take the burden off the xfinity gateway?

The Xfinity gateway just says X-fi Xfinity advanced gateway.
The Linksys router is EA6100. It has four ethernet ports. The Linksys settings says "bridge mode" if that helps any.
The extender is the Nighhawk x4 AC2200. I believe the AC2200 means only distance not speed.

So the linksys is acting as an access point.
without knowing which xfinity router you have its tough to tell you which to connect it to. Reason why is the linksys is an AC1200. Unknown what the xfinity is. You could try it with each to see which performs better.
