No, I have not logged into the router. Not even sure how to do that. Shouldn't the netgear mywifie x t dot net website automatically get me to the extender login, anyway?

not all routers pass the wifiext correctly.
but the router does assign an ip address to the extender. If you log into the router, it should have an attached device list or the equivalent.
What router are you using?

jstrehl Your extender isn't the same model as the OP. You can read through the thread to see what's already been recommended (and could well work with your issue) but if you're unable to get it working, please start your own thread instead of jumping in on one with different hardware.

The default IP (192.168.1.250) is only in place if there was no response from the LAN DHCP server.
Open a Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or other browser window and enter http://192.168.1.254 to access the BGW210 gateway.

mywifiext[.net] | [.com] does not pass the extender - the DNS query (permitting no secured DNS in the game!) is captured on the extender, and the extender's IPv4 address is returned. That's why one has to connect a computer or mobile to the extender - and explains why these two URLs can't be used anywhere on the LAN.
If the extender is linked to the router WiFi, as you already mentioned, it will get a valid IP for the LAN.
