Thanks. After the tricky reset (keeping the reset button pushed while turning it on) - I turned the device off and then when I turned it on again it worked. I could connect to 192.168.1.250 and configured it.

How much is the standard warranty for NetGear devices, by the way? I can't remember how much they said at the shop when I bought it.
