Thanks Stephenb. Interesting that my old WNDR4500 router did not have the same issues as my new one. The signal was always clear with no lag in gaming or streaming. Would a crowded network be a compounded issue? Meaning I have lots of neighbors with their own Wi-Fi router fighting for the same channels on both 2.4 and 5ghz. Looking at a Wi-Fi discoverer, istumbler, it looks crowded while mine is sitting at the top 3-10 spots.

If you still have the WNDR4500 you could set it back up and use it as an access point. See page 113 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNDR4500v3/WNDR4500v3_UM_19Jan2015.pdf

5 Ghz Interference is a bigger issue with 802.11ac than 802.11n - because 802.11ac uses multiple 5 Ghz channels to get more speed.

Thanks! I didn’t know that the standard firmware will allow wireless bridging AP!!! I only read about the DD-WRT firmware supports it. I must try it out! The WNDR4500 is awesome!

  Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that it did wireless bridging.
  
  If the WDNR4500 gave you usable wifi from the same location, then you can connect with with ethernet to your new router, and use it as a wired access point.

I guess things have changed since the previous firmwares... there is a wireless repeater option. Is there better documentation? It’s not in the old manual. I am guessing that this would work similar to an extender.

Update:

i figure that I have the wrong Repeater IP Address and Base Station MAC Address.
