Connect Range Extender

Connecting via WPS - WPS LED blinks then goes out; multiple attempts, less than 2 feet from the WAP. No change in every attempt.

Instructions are to use Connect with Netgear Installation Assistant - device connects with NETGEAR_EXT and device LED lights on extender. Then visit www.mywifi.net ; I get an error message that I am not connected to my extender's WiFi network even though the device LED suggests I am.

It also suggests that the instruction do not apply to the extender I have. I have a MacBook Pro and have tried www.mywifiext.local but this page does not load.

I cannot get past first base, can anyone help?
