I tried reconfiguring the Nighthawk so that it manages both as the same 'Smart Connect'. Still no luck. So I can continue to over use the 2.4 band.
Second issue, and primary purpose of the purchase was plugging in a Hub into the extender to provide internet to desktop PCs in other room. The EX 3700 will display on the wired connection, but will not allow internet to pass through. Do I need to find a different solution?
Disable the smart connect feature on the R6900P. Smart connect can cause issues with wireless extenders as the router itself manages which device connects to which channel. See if this resolves your issues of connecting the extenders. here's some more info on troubleshooting extenders that is helpful.

You can setup fastlane with the extenders to optimize speeds/distances depending on what your needs are for that specific extender.
