Does AC750 require ddwrt firmware to connect to ddwrt-flashed netgear router?

This past year my EX3700 hasn't been working properly or at all.

 

My main Netgear Nighthawk router has ddwrt installed for years.

 

Does my Wifi Extender need ddwrt firmware installed for the ddwrt router?

    No it doesn't.

    If you installed the ex3700 using wps, factory reset it and install it using the installation assistant. 

    If that doesn't help, a bit more details on whats actually going on helps.
