EAX12 doesn't see and won't connect to my 5ghz network
I have AT&T Fiber with a BGW320-500 router/gateway. It broadcasts one SSID for both networks allowing for the best connection for each specific device. I have a couple of dead (or very poor) wifi spo...

Resetting both did nothing. Same thing as before.
Playing around in the Netgear settings in the extender, I saw a setting that can be turned on to allow a device to connect to both 2.4 and 5Ghz networks at the same time. I can't find that same setting in the AT&T gateway, but I wonder if this is the same issue. I also wonder if I should set up the 2.Ghz and 5Ghz networks with different SSIDs in the gateway. I guess tonight I will try that and see if there is any difference.

I did play with the Gateway's settings and was able to get the connection between the extender and the gateway (still only 2.4Ghz) up to 286Mbps by allowing AX devices to connect to the 2.4Ghz band which gives the extender two IP addresses at the same time. So now I am at least getting acceptable speeds in those zones I was trying to solve for. I also have a suspicion some of this is likely AT&Ts way of trying to get you to use their mesh extenders with their gateway for a whopping $10 per month per extender.
The only other thing I can think to try is to split the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks, but that is kind of messy in today's world. Or, I could string some cable through the attic and run the EAX12 as an access point (not a fun proposition).

got an old router sitting around? Or friends with a neighbor?
I'd try it on a different router to see if it is indeed a router issue or if something is bad within the extender. - LarrszApr 11, 2023Guide
Funny you should ask and how I believe this is related to the AT&T gateway. My neighbor has cable internet and his own router and the AX1600 can see both of his networks (2.4 and 5Ghz) in the app even though they also are not separate SSIDs. And, as I said before, I can see at least one other neighbor's AT&T network since they haven't changed the SSID from the default and it only shows the 2.4Ghz network. So, I will surmise that this extender just doesn't play well with the AT&T gateway. It wouldn't surprise me, as I said before, that this is by design on AT&T's part. AT&T offers their own mesh extenders at $10 per month rental and although those same units are available all over the internet for purchase, it seems that many people say they cannot be made to use with the AT&T gateway either without the rental fee.
My solution is that I will either run a MOCA setup since I happen to have cable outlets where I need them, or I will just buy my own mesh system and setup the AT&T gateway in passthrough mode. No way I will give them $10 per month for a mesh extender since either of the other solutions is about the cost of one year of their "rental".
