EAX20 Mesh Extender with a Hotspot

Hello everyone,

I am new to Netgear and new to the Forum so I hope my questions are appropriate and that I am going about things the right way.

The (overall) Issue: I have been battling with my phone provider for over a month to get them to install fiber for high speed Internet and it does not look like they are going to do it.

Possible Solution: I get a Hotspot and use a mesh extender so that I can make an Ethernet connection to my desktop that does not have WiFi AND is 185 feet away from where I use my laptop (which does have Wifi).

Current Status: So as to test my idea,I got the A7000 USB adapter and the EAX20 mesh extender, and I borrowed a hotspot from our local library. I set it up and it worked great. If this is a sound solution then, when it becomes available, I will get the Netgear 5G unlocked hotspot. I felt that this was the answer to my problems - but I had the follwoing problem.

I had to return the library's hotspot but they gave me a different one. I had a little difficulty setting this one up with the extender and so, since I had purchased two years of technical support, I contacted support. I was told that Netgear recommends that the extender is connected to a router NOT a hotspot. No explanation was given and no help. I had already connected it to the previous hotspot and it had worked brilliantly. So then I pushed the reset button and tried the installation again. That went well and, once more, the setup is working brilliantly with this, second, hotspot.

The Questions: 1) Am I correct in thinking that all ther mesh extender does is to identify a WiFi signal, retransmit it and also (needed by me) send it out the Ethernet ports?

2)Although the setup has now worked well with two hotspots (4G LTE) should I expect that it will NOT work with the Netgear M5 5G WiFi-6 Mobile Router (which is a hotspot)?

3) If our phone company won't put in the fiber (as per our agreement with them) and (for other reasons we don't want to work with our cable company) the only option I can think of is Wireless (probably T-mobile) but I need TWO Ethernet ports so a hotspot together with the EAX20 looks like the only (but a good) solution. But Netgear support tells me this won't work. Are they correct?

With thanks
