When I tested the phone at the location where I got it, all I had to do was plug the ethernet cable into the port and the phone started work.
Not powering up? Reads like they showed you the usage of this unknown VoIP phone in an environment with PoE (Power over Ethernet). On normal Ethernet ports, like on the EAX20 (or virtually all Internet routers or gateways), there is no PoE.
Nothing does prohibit to power-up the VoIP device in case there is an Internet connectivity issue. It would simply fail to place to receive calls. Does this magic VoIP phone come with an external power adapter, too?

Thank you for the info. I am first going to see if getting the power supply to the phone resolves the issue. If nothing else, it will at least get me power. If after that I still do not have the connectivity, I will venture down the avenue you have supplied.
Thanks again.

Curious, which make and product model?
I understand the VoIP vendors don't include power supplies in the face of PoE available. This avoids electronic waste, and saves shipping costs.
