Ethernet ports on range extender don't work when connecting them to computer Ethernet port.

My wifi extender is up to date with the latest FW. My problem is that when I connect an ethernet cable to the extender and my PC the I am told that I am connected to the network but I can't get onto the internet. If I connect an ethernet cable to the extender and then through an ethernet to usb adapter and plug that into my computer everything works just fine and I can get on the internet. I'm not sure what the issue is. This problem also extends when connecting my xbox console to the the extender via ethernet cable.
