Would love to know the brand/model of garage door opener (to put on my "do not buy" list).
The first step is to verify that the garage door opener actually requires extraordinary effort to make the connection. Often, internet gizmos state in large type, "REQUIRES 2.4G WiFi", when this means (literally) it has only a 2.4G WiFi radio and cannot function without a 2.4G WiFi system. This is akin to a flashlight saying, "requires 2 C-cell batteries". Since 99.9% of all WiFi systems provide 24G WiFi, there is usually no problem.
Have you tried simply ignoring the warnings and proceeding with the installation until it puts up an error message?
If the Frontier WiFi router has the option to disable the 5G WiFi radio (temporarily), turning off the 5G radio, connecting the garage door opener, and then turning the 5G radio back on again is the easiest way to solve this issue.
There are some devices which have poorly written smartphone apps and can perform the setup only when the smartphone is connected to the WiFi at 2.4G. In that case, deploying a WiFi extender is one of the easiest methods. It is essential that the WiFi extender create a 2.4G network with a different name (SSID) than the primary WiFi system so that the device and smartphone will connect only to the extender during setup.
Page 19 of the User Manual describes how to disable the 5G WiFi radio in the extender.

With the 5G radio disabled, connect the smartphone running the garage door app to the WiFi extender. Then open the smartphone app and perform the setup.
Ironically, after the product has been configured, the smartphone can connect to WiFi at any speed.
Hi thanks for your responses. The garage device is called MyQ. I don’t think the issue is with the garage door device. I think the 2.4 GHz SSID that is created in the extender setup pretends to be a valid SSID option and displays as one but doesn’t act like one as there is no internet and when I select the SSID for the 2.4Ghz WiFi, it spins and the little WIFI icon never appears on my phone or anyone else’s phone who tries to connect. It will not connect to any device.
i have tried ignoring the My Q 2.4Ghz config warnings and configuring it under the 5Ghz that does display and actually works on my phone but not for configuring the MyQ. It simply will not
configure under the 5Ghz SSID. I have another home location where I installed this same device and it definitely requires 2.4Ghz for configuration. That setup has a mesh network not an extender and easily disabled 5Ghz and the configuration worked fine.
Yes I tried blocking the 5Ghz on the extender but it still won’t connect to the 2.4 GHz SSID EXT.
i also tried disabling 5Ghz on the Frontier router and while that would not work with the extender either, I did get a weak wifi signal from my regular wifi and got pretty far in the install before the weak wifi signal failed and didn’t allow the full configuration.
It seems the issue is maybe something more between the handshake of the extender in 2.4Ghz to the Frontier Router. I factory reset the extender and reconfigured it a few times with the same result. The 2.4 SSID broadcasts but does not connect successfully to anyone’s phone or the garage device (even if I blocked 5 GHz on device and or blocked on the Frontier router)
The 2.4Ghz ext SSID is a different name than the primary network so that shouldn’t be an issue. As mentioned, the 2.4ghz SSID will not connect to my phone or anyone’s phone.
I think if I could get the 2.4Ghz SSID that the extender creates upon configuration to work on my Ipone, I think the garage configuration will work. It just seems my Frontier router is blocking something vital not to allow the two to not only display but actually connect.
