I installed the extender in the Access point mode and it is working, but when I ran a speed test, I found that the download speed is less than 10 mbps while the WIFI speed directly to the router is 2...

Take the extender next to the router and connect a cat 6 6ft cable between the 2 devices. then try testing its speed. I'm wondering if its 10/100mbps port is only connecting at 10mbps speeds.
Also, when you test, are you getting 10 MB/s or 10mbps. I've seen users change from megabits per second megabytes per second. Could be 10 megabytes per second which would be 80 megabits/second.

No, it is definitely mbps (as specified in the Ookla speed test app). But I ran the speed test again and it is now reading 61.69 mbps download. That is about half the speed of the Netgear_5G WIFI signal but acceptable. I added the extender in order to get an acceptable signal on my patio where I installed a TV in order to watch the football games in the fall weather. The signal without the extender was so weak that I got a degraded video and constant searching. I watched that TV several hours on Saturday without any problems. One issue I noticed is this morning, the LED for the ROUTER LINK was red. I turned it off and back on to restore the connection and afterwards, it worked fine.
