The unit is plugged in inches from the router /modem. I tried both the 2 g and 5 g.
The signal at that point from my main router modem is 380 mb. The output on the extender both 2 and 5 g is under 40 mb.
That is a problem.

Did you read the post I recommended? It goes over speed expectations from dual band base level extender devices (which the EX3700 is)
Plus an extender is pointless right next to a router unless you're hardwiring it in for AP mode.
Firmware on the extender?

Yes I read it. having it close to my modem/ router was for testing, perhaps you didn't see that in my post. I moved it closer to make sure the 3700 had sufficient signal into it.
the point is I have 380 mb and when connected to the EX3700 I have 40 mb. not even close to half the speed. No matter how you explain it there is something very wrong with that scenario. Nothing fancy.
